About the Sewing Classes
What does my class fee cover?
For Bra, Corstry, Swimwear and Knickers classes the fee covers the tuition, kit to make your required piece/s on the day, vilene and your pattern. The pattern you will keep has multiple sizes on it.
General sewing and Overlocking classes covers the tuition only.
When do you run sewing classes?
We run bra making classes every 4 - 6 weeks. They will alternate between soft cup, molded cup and advanced bra making classes. Briefs classes aslo run every 4 - 6 weeks. General sewing, Corsetry, Overlocking, Stretch Sewing and Swimwear classes run every 6 - 8 weeks. Classes can be viewed and booked here Sewing Classes.
What do I bring to sewing class?
You are required to bring your own sewing machine or overlocker (if required), pins, fabric scissors, paper scissors, unpicker, thread, bobbins, hand sewing needles, machine needles (including stretch) notepad and pen.
If you do not have a machine, you can rent one. This can be booked when booking the class.
If you are doing a general sewing class, you must bring your own project and fabric. Booby Traps sells haberdashery related to lingerie, therefore, we only stock stretch fabrics.
If coming to an all day workshop please bring your own lunch. On Saturdays, the only thing close by is Hungry Jacks and KFC (a short 30 second drive). Tea and Coffee are provided.
Do I need experience to book into a bra or briefs making class?
Absolutely. Bra making is quite an art and requires a lot of stretch sewing experience.
The result of an in-experienced sewer joining a bra class is a very frustated student, and we do not want that. We like to see students leaving happy and feeling accomplished from bra class. We recommend students joining us first for general sewing, knickers or stretch sewing classes to get up to speed.
Will my bra fit straight away after my first bra class?
Most of the time, we can get a lovely fit straight away. Occasionally we will need to make ammendments to the pattern after the first bra is created, We will try and make these changes to your pattern after class, so you can go home and create another bra with the changes in place.
I am a difficult fit can I book into bra class?
Yes you can. We ask that you email us after the booking and advise us of your bra size. In this case it may take a few bras before the pattern will fit well. You may even require two bra making sessions with us.
I have had a mastectomy and want to learn to make bras to fit my prosthesis. Can I do this in bra class?
We have helped ladies create lovely bras post surgery. We create a pocket from 100% combed cotton and insert this into our BOO3 bra pattern. Soft cup bra making is the best class for this, and after booking yourself into the class, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to inform us that you will require a mastectomy bra. We ask that Mastectomy students come half an hour prior to class beginning, so we can get sizing correct.
What happens if I book a workshop and am unable to attend?
Cancellation of sewing workshops must be at least two weeks in advance. In this case, the paid fee is transferrable to another sewing workshop.
Inadequate notice will result in the forfeit of fees.
In case of emergency or genuine illness, this rule will be waived and an alternate date can be scheduled.
Are men welcome to join any of the sewing classes?
